Red Storm Golf Champs Again!

The Saranac Lake Red Storm - who make their home at the Saranac Lake Golf Club during the regular season - won the Section VII title for the second year in a row Thursday. The Red Storm endured rainy conditions at nearby Saranac Inn while posting a combined score of 341 to best the field by 10 strokes. Lake Placid, Peru, and Northeastern Clinton all finished with 351.

Dustin Fischer was low for Saranac Lake with an 82, followed by Ethan Sawyer at 84, Teddy Yanchitis at 87, and Austin Ecret at 88. They posted the low scores that counted toward Saranac Lake's team total. However, Blake Gregory finished with a 91 and advanced to the individual competition scheduled for Friday. Carly Sawyer narrowly missed the cut with a 101.

Three of those golfers went on to qualify for the State Championships, which will be played at Cornell University. Dustin Fischer and Ethan Sawyer each finished with a 2-day total of 165 to finish tied for second - just one stroke behind the medalist for the sectional event. In addition to Fischer and Sawyer, Teddy Yanchitis also qualified for the states.

Congratulations to the Red Storm from all the members at the Club!
